Directors

 

MASON BARLOW is thrilled to be in his fifteenth year as a choir director for the Arlington High School choral department, this being his eighth year as head director. Upon his graduation from college, he was hired by the Nacogdoches School District and taught at McMichael Middle School from January to May of 2010. During his time there he built the choir program from 50 to 110 students and took the choirs to the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest; a first for the school.


Most recently, Mr. Barlow directed the Colt Chorale Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir in their performance at the Texas Choral Directors Association 2021 convention.  He also directs the Choraliers, who won Grand Champion at the Lonestar Show Choir Invitational in 2013 with his custom vocal arrangements.


Mr. Barlow received his Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and studied voice with Dr. Samuel Savage. He was the founding President of the UTA chapter of the Texas Collegiate Music Educators Association. While at UTA, Mr. Barlow sang with the A Cappella choir and Chamber Singers under the direction of Jing Ling-Tam. He toured with the choirs in Austria and Canada, as well as throughout Texas. Mr. Barlow has performed regionally in musical theater and has been in musical productions such as The King and I, My Fair Lady, Camelot, and The Music Man.


Mr. Barlow was Vocal Chair for Region V from 2017-2020 and has also been a Region and District Choir section leader. Mr. Barlow is currently a member of TMEA, TCDA, and AHS PTA.

SHANNON WINCKEL is excited to be in her eighth year as an Assistant Choir Director at Arlington High School. After graduating from the University of North Texas in May 2010, Ms. Winckel became the head choir director at McLean Middle School and McLean Sixth Grade Center in Fort Worth ISD. She restarted the choir program that had been absent for 18 months, more than doubled the enrollment from year one to year two, and achieved a sweepstakes with her top choir. After her two years at McLean, Ms. Winckel was hired at North Oaks Middle School in Birdville ISD and served as head choir director for five years.


Currently, Ms. Winckel directs the freshman tenor-bass choir, Horsemen, and the Varsity Treble Choir. She also co-directs Select Treble and assists with Bel Canto, Colt Chorale, and Choraliers.


Ms. Winckel received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas and studied voice with Rebecca Beasley. She sang with the Concert Choir for two years under the direction of Dr. Alan McClung, two years in Collegium (Early Music Ensemble) under the direction of Lyle Nordstrom, and three years in the A Cappella Choir under the direction of Dr. Jerry McCoy. She toured with the A Cappella Choir across the state of Texas, Cincinnati, OH, and her favorite tour- Taiwan. She was also a member when the choir performed at the TMEA Convention in February 2010. Ms. Winckel performed in the UNT Opera production of Suor Angelica.


Currently, Ms. Winckel lives in Arlington with her son Dean. Ms. Winckel  served as the Region 5 Vocal Treasurer from 2020 to 2024 and is currently the Region 5 Vocal Chair. She is a member of TMEA ,TCDA, and both AHS and Jones Academy PTA.

JENNA WHITE is stoked to be in her third year as a choir director for the Arlington High School choral department. After graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2020, she spent a year teaching choir at Ousley Junior High School in Arlington ISD. Ms. White is a proud graduate of Arlington High School and is so excited to be back home.


Currently, Ms. White teaches the Freshman Treble choir, Bel Canto, and assists with Horsemen, Colt Chorale, and Choraliers.


Ms. White received her Bachelor of Music from The University of Texas at Arlington and studied voice with Dr. Jennifer Ciobanu. While at UTA, Ms. White sang with the A Cappella choir under the direction of Dr. Karen Kenaston-French. She was a member of the choir that performed at the 2019 TMEA Convention in San Antonio.


Ms. White is a member of the Fort Worth Chorale and is an active member of First Baptist Church’s worship ministry. She is so excited to be back in Colt Country!
