I hope this article finds you well and working on projects that can’t get done during the school year. I hope you are finding time to be with family and to read great books and listen to great music and see great sites.
This school year was very busy and very successful. Robbie Balusek made the All State Choir, West Side Story was a screaming success…artistically and financially, UIL Concert & Sightreading was very successful with 4 Sweepstakes and 2 plaques, the Madrigal Dinners were great fun and so beautiful, we performed John Rutter’s Gloria with our wonderful Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Singers took their first competitive trip to the Madrigal Festival in San Antonio and came back with a “Distinguished Performance” award, we welcomed our beloved Ms. Hill into our program and she added so very much, we have more signed up for choir next year than we have in the past and have added some new choirs and divided others for a better experience for all.
This school year also is bringing some changes. Mr. Adams, AHS Principal resigned after 15 years of strong leadership. Margarita Roco left her voice studio to pursue her own opera career in Europe. Wanda Sessions, Theater Department chair resigned after 25 years at AHS. Change is hard for all of us but is a necessary part of life. We are so excited to welcome the new AHS Principal, Ms. Jennifer Young. She has been an AP at Arlington High School since 2004 and will be a strong, fair and energetic principal for all of us.
Another big change for us is saying goodbye to Pati Ferguson, our Booster Club president extraordinaire. We will miss her so much but we are happy to welcome Mrs. Marsha Coke…mother of gorgeous Elizabeth Coke….as our new president. She has been part of our Booster Club for 4 years and knows how things are done. She will be a great president who will lead us and bring us new ideas. Thank you, Marsha.
The Choir Officers are already busy with meetings, plans, etc and next year will be another exciting year.
I am very excited to announce the great honor bestowed upon Colt Chorale. They have been invited to sing at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February of 2009. This is a very prestigious invitation and one coveted by Texas directors. To showcase them at a venue of this merit is quite an honor and one we are proud to uphold. The work required to learn and execute highly challenging music and to remain eligible is a daunting task but these kids are definitely up for the job.
Please refer to the website for upcoming events, boot camps, etc and thank you for your amazing singers. They are truly talented young adults and it is a pleasure to work with them.
